Noodle Noodle Restaurant- Edmonton, AB (Canada)

The restaurant was surprisingly empty for 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon~ It could be because of the size of the restaurant and I was so used to seeing it packed at noon on the weekends.

They have a nice picture menu that has everything the restaurant offers for dim sum.

.

We ordered:

Minced Pork & Shrimp Dumping (Siu mai) $4.95

Pretty solid siu mai that is meaty and well seasoned. Not a lot of shrimp and barely any bits of mushroom. Pretty average siu mai, not sure it is quite worth the $4.95 price tag.

.

Shrimp & Chives Dumpling $4.95

The skin was a little too thick and gummy. There was generous amounts of well seasoned shrimp and chives that gives it a little crunch.

.

Steamed Spare Ribs w Black Bean Sauce $4.95

Nice and fatty with bits of garlic. Not a lot of black bean flavour but the meat was very tender and nicely seasoned.

.

Steamed Bean Curd Meat Roll $5.95

The meat filling was a little underseasoned and dry. I was not crazy about this at all. The beancurd skin was a little tough and dry as well.

.

Deep Fried Shrimp & Meat Dumpling $4.95

This has the same filling as the taro dumpling. Bits of vegetables and ground pork that is a little too peppery. Main flavour was oyster sauce. The dumpling shell was nice and crispy and chewy with a hint of sweetness. Overall, a little average.

.

Deep Fried Taro Root Dumpling $6.95

This turned out a little gross. The taro was cold in the centre and there was any colour. It almost seemed like it was deep fried frozen so the centre did not get cooked thoroughly. Same peppery filling as the deep fried dumpling.

.

Deep Fried Shrimp Dumpling w Mayo $7.50

This dish has never failed to disappoint over the years. Generously filled with big chunks of well seasoned shrimp and ultra crispy wonton skin. Served with a sweet mayo dip.

.

Eggplant w Shrimp $7.50

I saw this dish on a neighbouring table and just had to order it. The shrimp paste was delicious – seasoned nicely and juicy. The egg plant was well cooked through and eventhough it looks greasy it actually wasn’t.   The black bean sauce was good as well.

.

Shrimp Rice Roll $6.50

The rice rolls were a little on the thicker side, but had a good amount of shrimp with a sweet salty sauce. Not bad.

.

Sticky Rice $7.50

Pretty good sticky rice. The filling was sweet & savoury and actually very moist giving great flavour to the rest of the rice. The rice was cooked perfectly and had the leafy after taste from the leaf wrap.

Total Damage: $96 (including tax & tip)

Personal Rating: 2.75 out of 5 (Pretty average)

The food wasn’t too bad, all average with a couple dishes above average. A Couple items were not too fresh looking but tasted fine. Prices were a little pricier than other dim sum restaurants around the city. When we were there it was alot emptier than I expected, Noodle Noodle used to be packed every weekend.

After our dining experience, I could see why other places may be more popular. The food was just not worth the premium prices. Service was actually quite good considering my low expectations for most Chinese establishments.
