We got ourselves some Hop on Hop off tickets to get a quick preview of what NYC & Brooklyn has to offer. I heard bout Junior’s and how the “World’s Original New York cheesecake” originated there in 1950 and has since been modified and duplicated all over. It is originally made with a cake bottom and not graham crackers. Another tour guide though, insisted that Lindy’s has the better cheesecake. I didn’t get a chance to try Lindy’s but managed to grab a slice of NY Cheesecake from Junior’s after watching Memphis across the street.
I just picked it up from their “to-go” section but they also have a huge restaurant right next to it right through a small doorway.
Their take out menu is simple – full range of cakes & some hot drinks to go with it.
Famous No. 1 Original Cheesecake $6.25
It looks a little beaten up because we were carrying it around and it was hailing and quite an unpleasant experience of dodging umbrellas and avoiding getting poked it the eye while trying to keep my cheesecake intact.
But it is all good. It is still tasty and quite a great way to feel all good and fuzzy again.
Total Damage: $9.50 (including a coffee & tax)
Personal Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (Very good)
I am no Cheesecake connoisseur, but this was one fine piece of cheesecake. It was cheese-y, creamy and oh-so-tasty but to be honest I kinda like the modified versions with the graham crusts *gasps*. Not cheap but worth every dollar~ The next time around, I am hoping to try all the other cakes.
