Finally, Joe’s!!! I have been wanting to try this restaurant since I saw it on “The Best Thing I Ever Ate”. I was so curious about these Stone Crab Claws for almost 2 years but Meep & I just keep eating elsewhere when we were in Vegas. This time, we finally got here…
The exterior of the restaurant was quite amazing. These are rows and rows of wine bottles as their “exterior” decor.
The restaurant was a lot larger than I expected. There is a “outdoor” seating that is always filled with people. Then the lounge with the bar & stools, where Meep & I ate.
Then further in, is a huge dining area that is closed off during lunch.
We went for lunch – and I noticed that the menu was slightly different from the dinner menu w less options. Lunch Menu is still fairly extensive with a nice range of Seafood appetisers and seafood & meat entrees.
Note: The sides are additional orders (unless stated)
Colossal Lump Crab Cake $13.95
My favourite dish – this was definitely crab heavy. A Lot of great chunks of crab with very little “filler” to hold it together. Their house mustard dressing goes perfectly with it. The crab cake had a nice crust from pan searing and yet had juicy moist insides.
Medium Stone Crab $35.95
Delicious and really sweet. I am not really a fan of cold crab but this was pretty good. Meep polished of 6 of them and was definitely impressed by how meaty and sweet the flesh was. It has a firmer texture than Dungeness crab and of course pricier. This is also served with the house mustard dressing – great tangy kick to counter the sweetness of the crab.
Careful of the hard (and I mean stone hard) shell because I actually cut my finger really bad when I pick at the shell the wrong way.
Fish & Chips $15.95
Fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and nice & moist on the inside. I appreciate it when cooks/chefs cooks battered fish well.
The crust had great crunch and a light flavour to it. Meep thought it was average (like every other fish & chip). It is not exciting but it was a well made fish~ I enjoyed the tartar sauce that came with it. I actually like the tartar more than the crowd favourite house dressing.
Total Damage: $100 (Including a wine, coke, tax & tip)
Personal Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (Pretty Darn Good)
I was not as blown away as most by the Stone Crabs (Meep thinks it is because it “bit” me). But I am glad I tried it. You won’t get any crab that taste quite as sweet and the same way or have the same texture.
My favourite was actually the crab cake because I love crab meat from the body of the crab more than claws. I just feel that they have a softer nicer texture.
I can’t wait to go back for dinner to try their meat entrees.
