Gong Xi Fa Chai!

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR~

Finally spent my first Chinese new year in Brunei after 9   years! I was beyond excited for months and months. Eventhough, I did not get to spend all 15 days of CNY in Brunei; the one week I got was pretty awesome~

The celebrations always begin w a reunion dinner the night before 1st day CNY, then another dinner on day 8, then final one on day 15.

This year, for the reunion dinner (the night before), Uncle P suggested potluck style dinner. He gave each family a choice of a protein/veggie/carb. Normally, the dinner would be catered or everything cooked by Ah Koh so we were all anticipating how the pot luck would turn out.

Here is Ah Koh (dad’s sister n the family chef):

Preparing 3 giant red snappers and a HUGE pot of sharks’ fin soup~

Back home, mom & auntie were preparing braised duck ( we live less than a block away from Ah Koh for over 20 years)

Final product dishes:

Sharks’ Fin Soup

Sea cucumber & mixed veggies

Stewed pork leg

Beef Rendang

Thai Mango Fish

Fried Chicken

Braised Duck

Chili prawns

Fried Rice

Fried noodles & mee hoon w sauce

Mixed veggies

For desserts we have:

Almond & Longan Jelly

Melons

Everyone enjoying the feasts:

Nothing beats a big reunion dinner~

Another post coming up is of the range of Chinese New Year snacks offered at every home when we visit; and all the baking done up to the celebration~
