My BIL (Brother in Law) and FIN (Father in Law) were in town this weekend to watch the UFC and do some skiing, so we decided to kick the weekend off by heading out for some Thai food close to home.
We went to the Spice Room, a cute little Thai place in the heart of Columbia City. S and I have been there a couple times before, and we quite like it. The restaurant itself it quite nice, and the location is more than convenient for us.
Take a look at what we feasted on:
We started with the sampler platter since we were so hungry and wanted everything. I had a chicken wing which was surprisingly good, a spring roll which was vegetable so it was only ok, and a piece of satay which was really good! It seemed to hit the spot.
The crab fried rice was pretty good, I think the boys like it more than I did. The crab portions were surprisingly pretty generous as well.
Although this picture does not look that appetizing, it was delicious. Probably my favorite dish of the evening. With all their main dishes, you can choose the type of meat to put in to the dish. We chose chicken for our curry and did not regret it.
The phad see iew was ok. Everyone know I like my noodles firmer than most, so this tasted very soggy to me. This is how the dish is supposed to be prepared so it’s just a matter of preference on this one. The boys really enjoyed this dish, it was probably one of their favorites.
I only had one piece of the chicken and that was more than enough for me. It seemed kind of bland and dry. It was the least popular dish of the ones we chose. This was part of their ‘fusion’ menu, which I usually avoid.
We ordered beef for the phad thai, which is not what we would usually order but it turned out GREAT! I would probably choose beef out of all the offered meats going forward. We all really enjoyed this dish, it’s one that we have ordered in the past and will continue to order.
I ordered some black lychee tea, and not only was the tea delicious, it came in this really cute tea set. One of the only teapots I have ever used that didn’t spill tea while pouring. It’s officially my go-to drink when I go to Spice Room. I love it.
Damage: My FIT was generous enough to buy dinner, so no damage on our part here! I did a quick calculation as to how much just this food would cost, and it’s approximate $80.00 (without tax or tip)
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (Pretty Good!)
