Japanese!!!!

xWent to Nijiya yesterday!!! It is a Japanese store in San Jose. I read on Yelp that it is supposedly cheaper than Mitsuwa but I don’t see any major difference in price. I got an array of ingredients thinking I will eventually get to make them~ I couldn’t wait to try making sushi so ended up making them today~ lol

After doing my research online, reading over 6 websites, I sorta got the gist of what is in making sushi rice and rolls. I also made some miso soup after seeing how easy it was on Steamy Kitchen’s site; and teriyaki chicken coz after that salmon teriyaki I made, I found the right proportion of ingredients to make a good sauce~

First up on the menu~ Miso soup

used bout a cup of tofu, tablespoon of wakame (soaked in hot water), teaspoon n half of dashi and 3 teaspoon miso. num num num…

served hot!

Then teriyaki chicken with rice! (equal parts light soy sauce, mirin. some rice wine and sesame oil. sugar to thicken sauce!)

And finally some california rolls and chicken teriyaki roll~~~

Making the rice was tedious! All the washing, drying and soaking took about 2 hours in total. Then fanning the rice while mixing in the seasoned rice vinegar. *phew* just talking about it gets me exhausted all over again (in a good way)

The process

Not too bad for first sushi roll made in over 4 years~ ^o^ I felt quite pleased with myself until i tried to cut it and it fell apart. But the next few held together a lil better~

And then, cut cut cut

YEAY!!! dinner is served~
