Our original plan was to dine at the popular Phil’s BBQ that has thousands of amazing reviews. Being a crappy planner, I didn’t notice that the place was closed for Easter Sunday. I had to be quick and find something to eat before we head to the airport. Found Gaglione Brothers through Yelp and it was indeed a gem!
I loved the random pictures all over the wall~
Mushroom Cheesesteak $9.99
I am in love!! The best cheesesteak I have ever had in my life~ The meat was sooo tender, marinated well through and had lovely melted cheese, sweet cooked onions and lots of mushroom all over. There was an insane amount of meat on that sandwich and it was not insanely heavy and not too much bread. I think they dug out some of the insides of the bread to make room for all that meat.
I ended up eating more of this than I expected especially since I am usually not a fan of cheesesteaks.
Father Joe $9.99
Homemade Meatballs, Marinara, Provolone, Parmesan & Parsley
The meatballs were massive and packful flavour. It was like an order of giant meatballs with a little side of bread. There was definitely more meat than bread but I do love my meatballs!! Generously topped with parsley and parmesan. Very good sandwich.
Garlic Fries $2.69
The garlic fries were freaking amazing!! Really crispy on the outside, soft centre sprinkled with the right amount of salt and small bits of crispy garlic. It was freaking addictive and for $2.69, definitely a steal.
Total Damage: ~$26
Personal Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (Excellent)
Who would have thought that the best Philly Cheesesteak I have had would be in a place we randomly stumbled upon. It is super casual; walk-in, decide what you want and order over the counter. The steaks were then seasoned and prepared right on the flat top and assembled fresh.
If I am ever back in San Diego and am garlic fries or a Cheesesteak – this is the place to go!
